We have a tendency to cook the same dishes week after week – it’s an easy routine to fall into. I’ve joined Linky Parties for “On the Menu” and the (self-imposed) pressure to be creative resulted in some pretty tasty meals. Alas, life gets busy from time to time and I slip back into old habits, so… I’m not making any promises of posting a new menu every week – but I’ll try as often as time allows.
Some great tools for my menu preparations are on my iPad – oh how I do love technology. I have the Cooking Light App – I love the way it allows me to switch sides and main dishes until I find the meal that’s just right for us. I also have subscriptions to Cooking Light, Sunset (even though I live in Virginia, my California cooking style remains), Donna Hay – because she’s simply fabulous, and Whole Living – just so I feel healthy on occasion.
My strategy for menu planning during the week, keeping in mind the fabulous sons are off cooking their own meals, is to try to be healthy, colorful, and delish in a relatively short amount of time. I think pretty food tastes better, I may like oatmeal for breakfast – but it sure tastes better with some fresh berries on top. I’m not too fond of sugar, but sadly pasta is my best friend – we only allow infrequent visits.
